Sustainability
At Inova, we are continuously looking to be more sustainable.
Current initiatives include:
Materials
Core Materials
All core material used to manufacture our InovaBeds (regardless of whether it is veneer, lacquer, or laminate finish) meets the requirement for CARB Phase II Formaldehyde Emissions.
-
CARB ATCM 93120 – indicates that the product meets the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) stringent emission standards for formaldehyde emissions
-
Upon request, our cores can also be ordered as FSC COC, qualifying for LEED credit Certified Wood.
-
Depending on the location of the job site relative to where the raw materials are harvested/manufactured, these materials could also qualify for LEED credit Regional Materials.
Finish: Laminate
Inova’s laminate series is made from Tafisa Tafipan core. Tafisa® Canada’s decorative panels (TFL) are manufactured using 100% recovered and recycled wood materials.
-
Provides up to 5 LEED credits
-
FSC®-certified (available)
-
EPA TSCA Title VI Compliant for formadehyde emissions less than 0.09 ppm
-
Complies with ANSI A208.1 – 2016 standards for M2 physical properties – sets forth requirements and test methods for dimensional tolerances, physical and mechanical properties and formaldehyde emissions for particleboard.
-
CARB ATCM 93120 – indicates that the product meets the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) stringent emission standards for formaldehyde emissions
-
CAN/CSA 0160-16 – Compliance with the standard will help make sure that off-gassing of formaldehyde from newly manufactured, unfinished composite wood products meets acceptable levels in homes.
Upholstery: Fabrics
Inova pre-selected fabrics, sourced from Mayer Fabrics, are GREENGUARD Certified
GREENGUARD Certified products are tested for low chemical emissions to standard UL 2818 and may to contribute to LEED certification.
Re-Think Waste
Fall-Off Materials: Within our product design, we have “utility” parts that are located inside the structure of the unit and not visible on the finished piece. By cutting these utility parts out of previously cut sheets of material (that would otherwise be thrown out), we drastically cut down on the waste that we dispose of, per order.
LED Lighting: Our 72,000 sf factory has been upgraded with overhead LED lights.
Packaging & Shipping: Ways in which we package and ship.
No styrofoam is used in our packaging
Bulk packing for Shipping
When possible, for larger orders, we bulk pack “like parts” onto pallets rather than individually wrapping each bed on its own pallet. By doing so, we can wrap each pallet as a piece, rather than each individual part that is on the pallet. This drastically reduced the amount of shipping materials used.
By Bulk Packing, the number of trucks needed is less, drastically reducing cost as well as emissions from transportation. On average, we can fit 18 more Beds per truck when bulk-packed. For example, an order of 48 Sofa Wall Beds (no cabinetry), individually packed would require 4 trucks (53’ trailers). If bulk-packed, only 2 trucks are needed.

Re-purpose Pallets: We set aside pallets from materials we receive in. One of our local vendors picks up the pallets during their delivery to us and re-purposes them for their own use.
Recycling: Bins for recycling are located throughout our facility, including our Break Rooms and Office. All paper, cardboard, and recyclable plastic is separated and placed into designated bins for pick-up.
Metal Waste: All defective and/or unused scrap metal is recycled.
Supply Chain
Inova uses a supply chain of certified and trusted vendors. Many are local, helping reduce the negative environmental impact due to shipping:
-
Tafisa, manufacturer of our laminate, is located in Quebec, Canada, less than 500 miles from both our distributor and our factory.
-
Our 3 main suppliers for 90% of our core material and stain/lacquer are located within our same Industrial Park, less than .5 miles away from our factory.
-
Metal fabrication vendor (1of 2) is less than 20 miles from Inova.
